Character Role Analysis

Spider-Man and the Green Goblin

The Green Goblin is as evil as Spider-Man is good. They're polar opposites, right down to their costume colors.

One puts innocent people in harm's way; the other saves countless lives. One destroys; the other creates. One believes mankind is inherently selfish; the other puts his faith in the goodness of ordinary people.

Norman Osborn and the Green Goblin

Norman is a grade-A jerk at the beginning of the film. He's power-hungry, selfish, and a bad parent, but he isn't evil. Then he drinks some toxic performance enhancers, steals a glider, and his personality splits in two.

By the end of the film, it's no longer clear where Norman begins and the Green Goblin ends, but one thing is for certain: Norman's greatest battle may not even be with Spider-Man. It may be with himself.
