Guide Mentor
Character Role Analysis
Cassandra Sagredo
At first glance, Cassandra Sagredo isn't much of a kindly mentor to the children. After all, she has her own selfish reasons for bringing them to Strachan's Ghyll—she wants one of them to steal the phoenix-stone so she won't have to die in a fire—but Cassandra does help the children in her own way by making Clara realize she can fight Grisini's spell if she has enough passion and determination.
And, by the end, Cassandra is definitely on the side of the children. She realizes the error of her ways after the phoenix-stone is destroyed and releases its hold on her, and she decides that she's been a mean, selfish woman. By the time she dies, she is determined to do the right thing and give her fortune over to Lizzie Rose and Parsefall, two poor orphans who deserve a fair chance in life.
