How It All Goes Down
Toys Aren't Us
- Mrs. Jones and Mr. Blunt are discussing Alex's recent progress. They debate giving him a gun, but decide instead to get him something special from a man named Smithers.
- Mrs. Jones has a theory: Ian was secretly "preparing Alex to replace him" (6.10) all his life. That certainly makes some sense…
- Blunt wants to send Alex into Sayle Enterprises now, but Mrs. Jones is resistant; she worries that Yassen Gregorovich—the man who killed Ian Rider—will kill Alex, too.
- But the truth is that they "have no time" (6.21) to wait, so Alex will be sent into action immediately.
- Alex is on his final training mission. He's currently in a plane with K-Unit preparing to make a parachute jump, although Alex has been exempted due to his impending deployment.
- Everybody makes the jump except for poor Wolf. He looks terrified and doesn't look like he'll move, but Alex thinks fast and kicks old Wolfie out of the plane.
- Mrs. Jones is waiting for him when they land. She introduces him to Smithers, who presents Alex with a few "toys" (6.42) for his mission.
- First, there's a Yo-Yo that doubles as a mechanical grappling system. There's also a zit cream container that holds a powerful substance capable of melting steel. Last but not least, there's a Game Boy with several games.
- These games are actually unique devices that can attach to the Game Boy. One acts as a scanner/fax machine; another is a versatile x-ray device; another is a bug (as in the audio-monitoring-apparatus, not the creepy-crawlers) locator; and finally, one is a smoke grenade. That sure beats the pants off of Angry Birds.
- Once Smithers leaves, Mrs. Jones finally reveals to Alex that his uncle was killed by Yassen Gregorovich, a "contract killer" (6.72) with ties to less-than-savory governments.
- She tells Alex that Ian's last message indicated Yassen's presence at Sayle Industries. She also warns him to notify them immediately if he sees Yassen—they'll pull him out of there stat.
- Wolf approaches Alex on his way out and thanks him for pushing him out of the plane. They shake hands and go their separate ways.
