Surrender Chapter 11 Summary

Gabriel

  • Always the sickest at night, Gabriel gets scared about dying. He thinks back to when he first got Surrender, and he was the only one in the house who cared for the pup.
  • Sure, his dad didn't mind when he was a puppy, but when he grew into a hungry, tough dog, he wasn't so fussed.
  • Still, Henry let him keep the dog, not because they liked the slobbery beast, but because they would never admit they were wrong. Ever.
  • When he and Finnigan turned fifteen, Surrender started spending more time with Finnigan than Gabriel. The two got along like bandits.
  • In his bed (in the present), Gabriel calls out for Sarah and asks if anyone has come to visit him… again.
  • She wipes his face and consoles him. No one has stopped by, but who is he waiting for exactly?
  • Gabriel doesn't fess up, but he wants her to stick around anyway.
  • Back when he was fifteen, Gabriel's mom would go into a fit at an instant's notice. Finnigan noticed Gabriel's frustration, but he was the only one; it's like she never wants her son to be happy, Gabriel thought.
  • Finnigan tells Gabriel that he always has his friend, saying that he can count on Finnigan—any time, any place.
  • They made a pact, and he will stick to it. No matter what.
  • Gabriel knows this is true, and he loves his friend for it. He really appreciates the fact that his friend is willing to risk his neck for him all the time.
  • He also appreciates the fact that Finnigan doesn't know everything about him.
  • One of those things is Evangeline.
