Betsy

Betsy is Travis' love interest, but not in a traditional way. He doesn't win her heart in the end or anything, though she does seem potentially worried about him. Instead of being motivated by the desire to get Betsy to love him, her rejection spurs Travis down a nihilistic and increasingly violent path. Since he can't get with Betsy, he decides to proceed in an entirely different direction—plotting Palantine's murder, before switching course and killing Sport.
