Character Role Analysis
Morris Bober
Morris's life has not panned out the way he would like. He himself would tell you he's not one to go to for advice about life. And yet he's a source of wisdom for Frank Alpine and, more important, an example to him. It's no accident that Frank effectively takes Morris's place after the store owner dies. Frank follows in his footsteps, not only in the store, but in his religious life. Throughout the book, Frank presses Morris on his Jewish beliefs and way of life, sometimes challenging him on his commitment and piety. When Morris is gone, Frank becomes a Jew.
