Character Analysis
Ida is the wife of Morris and the mother of Helen. She loves Morris, but regrets marrying him. She's faithful, but upset and disappointed that their lives have not turned out very well. She worries and nags because she wants what's best for everyone she loves, particularly Helen.
Because of this, she's constantly suspicious of Frank Alpine. She opposes his employment. She doesn't trust him with the money and merchandise, and she really doesn't trust him around Helen. Ida works diligently to keep her daughter out of Frank's sight. And as we find out, it's for good reason.
