- Edmund asks Nigel why the foreign spice traders didn't try to take their ship, but Nigel assures him that they have better things to do. Not only that, but ships bound for Constantinople have been known to lend the Crusaders a helping hand.
- They can see Venice in the distance. Edmund talks with Rannulf about how to fight the heathens. Rannulf is amused by Edmund's strategies, and tells him that he hopes that he will be able to put them to use before too long.
- Nigel returns from visiting the docks of Venice with some news: The fighting in the Holy Land has begun—but King Richard isn't there yet.
