Even though the New York of 1899 is a mélange of different languages and cultures that can be nearly impossible for a newcomer to navigate and comprehend, reading The Golem and the Jinni is like having a tour guide versed in every culture and language you could possibly encounter. Wecker so thoroughly researched this book, that everything from the Jewish mysticism, to tinsmithing, to navigating the rooftops of the Bowery feels familiar almost instantly.
