But what Mikey has with Willy seems to be the rare exception to the rule. Though the two have never had the chance to converse, or help each other with homework, they share a connection that transcends time and…aliveness. Mikey says it all in that final line—Willy was the first Goonie. It would be like Iron Man meeting the first Avenger. How could he not be friends with that guy, dead or otherwise?

Being a friend means never having to say, "I love you"…but caring enough to say it anyways.
These two just met a matter of hours ago, so they might be using the "L" word a little too quickly…but the sentiment is sincere. And rather than keeping it inside, chucking one another on the shoulder and remaining withdrawn, they choose to express just how they feel. That's admirable. A little creepy, but admirable nonetheless.
