The Prince and the Pauper Chapter 21 Summary

Hendon to the Rescue

  • When Edward finally wakes up, the first thing he sees is the hermit holding a giant knife over him. Okay.
  • Just as the old man is about to kill Edward, Miles Hendon returns to the scene.
  • The hermit quickly hides Edward and goes to meet Miles.
  • Miles asks the hermit where Edward is, and he says that Edward is on an errand.
  • At first Miles believes the hermit, but then he remembers that Edward is the king and acts like it. No way he would be on an errand.
  • But the hermit has a reason: he says he's an archangel, and an archangel outranks even a king. Oh, boy.
  • Somehow, Miles doesn't even question this, and he decides to wait for Edward to come back from his "errand."
  • Eventually, Miles gets tired of waiting and decides to go look for Edward. So he and the hermit head off together, leaving Edward all alone and tied up in the dark.
  • But luckily (we guess), John Canty shows up and grabs Edward out of the hermit's house.
