The Duke of Brachiano

Okay—Brachiano is Vittoria's romantic interest, and we already said Flamineo's the real protagonist. This is true. But Brachiano still seems important enough to merit a mention here. Even though he's a murderer and doesn't need much convincing when performing evil, he gets sucked into Flamineo and Vittoria's quest for more status and a greater fortune. He's Vittoria's lover, but he's Fate's sucker. (You could see him as the protagonist of the tragedy, even, and it would still make a kind of sense—though he doesn't have Flamineo's presence).
