What do The Lion King, Inception, and Thelma and Louise have in common, besides wise baboons? You got it: Hans Zimmer.

Hans Zimmer is a German genius (he actually made a genius list, we kid not) who writes movie scores that combine electronic sounds with traditional orchestral music. You've probably heard his music a lot in your life, even if you don't know it. He's scored films like Gladiator, The Prince of Egypt, The Dark Knight, and Pirates of the Caribbean, to name a few. He's also got some pretty cool titles for his Thelma and Louise songs like "You've Always Been Crazy" and "Suck My…"—well, you get the idea.

You know that country song that opens the film? Well, that country sound you're hearing is a slide guitar being played by Pete Haycock, a guy Zimmer was a big fan of when he was a teen. What it does is set us up for a wistful, moody film, and it gives us a taste of the Western vibe that will come when Thelma and Louise become outlaws. Right from the start, we get an epic quality from the music, as well as a lonely quality—all without the spoiler.
