Florian

Florian is a tricky guy to pin down, but he ends up schooling Theo in the complexities of life. When Theo comes to him, he's eager to get shelter and revenge against Cabbarus, which Florian provides. Florian also shows Theo that not all issues are black and white. For instance, when Theo complains that writing petitions for people is useless, as they won't be answered, Florian disagrees, saying that giving hope is one of the best things he can do to be compassionate to others (13.40).

Importantly, Florian also reintroduces Theo to the concept of violence for justice, which makes Theo think deeply about how he wants to enact change in his world.
