Expressions and Basic Operations, a la Shmoop. Petey the Pelican Poet

00:13

Flew high above the sea The fish below didn't know it

00:17

But dinner it was going to be Petey soared 200 feet above sea level

00:22

The fish swam 30 feet below Petey swooped down, that sneaky devil

00:28

And snatched that fish up. Whoa!

00:31

Now we have a question, if you please What's the total distance from sky to seas?

00:37

Here are your options. Petey's got his mouth full, so they don't

00:43

rhyme. We're going to spit this out while Petey's

00:45

dining on Charlie Tuna over there.

00:47

So, first he has to descend two hundred feet to get to sea level...

00:52

Then he has to go another thirty feet below sea level to grab the fish. We hope he took

00:57

a deep breath first.

00:59

Even though it's thirty feet below sea level, you don't want to subtract it from two hundred.

01:04

You'll add the two distances together. Two hundred plus thirty equals 230.

01:12

So Petey's glad he took a dip, he thinks his poetry is really hip,

01:15

and he's no longer hungry after his dip under the sea...

01:19

Oh yeah, the answer... it was B.
