Gaston Grodin

Character Analysis

A roly-poly clueless acquaintance of Humbert who teaches in the French Department at Beardsley College. He helps Humbert get a job and settle down in Beardsley. Gaston also becomes an on-and-off chess partner to Humbert and is safe to welcome into the house because he doesn't notice a thing, least of all Lolita (at one point he thinks Humbert has two daughters). His home's décor implies that his tastes run toward young men. Humbert describes Gaston as a mediocre thinker and scholar.
