Marked Chapter 8 Summary

  • The dorm is actually kind of nice. There are some flat screen TVs and a bunch of comfy-looking couches, and Nefret introduces Zoey to the group of girls sitting there.
  • A cute blonde girl stands up to say hi, and introduces herself as Aphrodite. She offers to show Zoey to her room. When Zoey hears Aphrodite laugh, though, she recognizes her as the girl from the corridor. Ugh.
  • Aphrodite tells Zoey to watch her step since Aphrodite is in charge of the social scene at the school. Zoey tells her she doesn't want any trouble, which just seems to annoy Aphrodite more, but then she puts on a big fake smile.
  • Zoey's new roommate sounds friendly until she sees Aphrodite—then this poor girl just looks terrified.
  • Zoey closes the door on Aphrodite before she can gloat anymore. Her new roommate, Stevie Rae Johnson, is also blond, and has a huge Oklahoma accent.
  • Stevie Rae seems really sweet as she shows Zoey around their room. Turns out Zoey's grandma brought a bunch of her stuff from her house, so she's got her old blanket, some books, and so on.
  • Stevie Rae shows Zoey her uniform, which is actually a collection of clothes that are stylish and not really uniform-like at all. Each class has a symbol on their sweaters or jackets. For their class (the third formers) it's a spiral that symbolizes the labyrinth of Nyx.
  • Zoey picks out some clothes to put on, looks at her reflection in the mirror, and can't tell if this new look (with the clothing and the Mark) is a good fit for her or not. And now it's time for dinner, and she's totally feeling nervous: Will they have to drink blood?
