Exactly how steamy is this story?

Can you believe that a high school teacher called Speak pornography in 2010? (source). In our opinion, there is nothing steamy about Speak. The sex described here is simply violent and scary. The novel deals with difficult subject matter, the rape of a fourteen-year-old girl and how she copes with it. It's very intense watching Melinda remember being raped, but even that description is handled with sensitivity. The book always seems to keep the young readers its intended for in mind. If this interests you, you might like this PBS special report on pornography. Then, decide for yourself what you think of the sexual scenes in Speak.
