- The day before the Rostovs are supposed to go back home, they have dinner with the Kuragins. There Sonya sees Natasha talking to Anatole about something and confronts her again.
- Natasha tries to sweet-talk her, but Sonya says that Anatole’s secrecy means that he’s not on the up and up (good call) and that she’s worried.
- Natasha tells Sonya that she’s happy to be “ruined” (a.k.a., have sex, get dumped, and not be able to marry). She tells her cousin to buzz off and says that they are enemies now.
- The next day Sonya sees Natasha sitting by the window and signaling something to someone outside.
- Sonya has no idea what to do or whom to ask for help, but she decides to protect her cousin by sitting in front of her door and not letting her escape.
