Maximum Speed Limit
Assuming the roads are safe and clear, how fast can you legally go? Well, if you’re on a California highway, the max speed is usually 65 mph, although sometimes you will see signs that allow you to travel at 70 mph. Unless you see a sign that advises you differently, the max speed limit on two-lane undivided highways is 55 mph. If you see a speed limit posting of 550 mph, chances are that sign has been graffitied, and you should probably err on the side of caution. Same goes for signs reading, “One Way to Your Mom’s House.”
Other than that, you are likely to see speed limit signs indicating a wide range of limits based on a variety of conditions, such as constructions zones, school zones, or half-finished-then-abandoned bridge zones. Just remember to always drive no faster than the speed limit (and slower still if conditions are poor) so that you don’t go ramming into the rear end of a hatchback or flying off a mountain.
