Drivers 21 and Older—DUI Programs and Restricted Licenses
If you are over 21 years of age, congratulations! You can now legally buy booze. God bless America.
You may also have different restrictions placed upon you when convicted of a DUI. The DMV may give you the option to pay a fee for a restricted license, which allows you to drive to and from work, as well as to and from your DUI class. You’ll still have to walk to Dairy Queen, unless you can prove that your urgent need of a Dilly Bar is work-related.
There is no guarantee you will receive this restricted license, however. If you are deemed a safety risk or have other actions against you, the court may demand that you not be allowed to drive at all. If that happens, just take your lumps and vow to be a better, safer driver the next time around. And as long as you’re making resolutions, try to call your Aunt Shari more often. She misses you.
What you definitely do not want to do is receive a second DUI. The penalties become much more severe and can pretty much ruin your life for a few years. You can lose your license for up to two years. Plus your mom might make you spend more time in your room to think about what you’ve done.
