Character Analysis
This friendly page is "big, with tightly curled brown hair and coal-black eyes" (2.49). He's quick to become friends with Alanna, and soon she "had become a favorite with Raoul, and he didn't care who knew it" (3.25). When Ralon goes so far as to break Alanna's arm, Raoul is the one to administer the beating. The rest of the time, though, he seems like a generally good-natured guy. (And we can't hate on him for sticking up for Alanna.)
