Deza Malone Timeline and Summary

Deza hands all the boys the dishes they are going to do together down at the creek. She is in charge because she's been in Hooverville the longest.
While washing dishes with Bud, Deza asks him questions about where he's from and about his plans, then she quickly adds in some bits of wisdom from her mom and dad about life.
Deza's openness gets Bud to talk about personal things.
Out of nowhere, Deza gets Bud to kiss her. They listen to the song "Shenandoah" play in the background.
Deza really enjoys the moment: the music, the kiss, and the romance of the moon over the water.
Deza and Bud walk back after finishing the dishes, and Deza mentions how sad the white family is around their fire with no food.
