Character Role Analysis

Edmond Dantès, the Count of Monte Cristo

Edmond is definitely the hero of this novel. His is the story we follow through a thousand pages, as he transforms from a naïve young man into the mysterious, sophisticated, calculating Count of Monte Cristo. It's his wrongful imprisonment that gets the story going, and his elaborate revenge mission that drives the action in the majority of the novel. Though we may not admire all of his actions, we're definitely rooting for Edmond all the way.
