Character Analysis
Baptistin is the Count's valet de chambre – but you can call him a butler if you'd like. He's well-behaved and well-compensated. He's responsible for instructing the other servants and generally keeping the household running, which is to say he doesn't have to undertake the more extreme tasks that Bertuccio is assigned. At one point, the Count calls Baptistin out for stealing money and various other goods – but the incident says less about Baptistin than about the Count. How many other guys could be planning their revenge and keeping their eyes peeled for a little domestic fraud?
