Like most live-action movies, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was filmed on good old 35 mm film…with a whole lot of digital effects added in.

Yup. We hate to be the ones to break this to you, but there's no such thing as magic. We really wish there was though—and so does the special effects crew who had to manually create the over 1,400 visual effects needed for this movie.

Grawp was done with a new technology called "soul capturing." The background scenes in the Hall of Prophecies were 100% digital because it would have taken weeks for humans to reset all those broken orbs. (And just image the all the Band-Aids.) Source)

Order of the Phoenix was also the first Potter movie to be released in 3D. Don't get too excited though. It was released in IMAX theaters only and just the last twenty minutes of the movie—the showdown between Dumbledore and Voldemort—were in 3D. But, hey, if you're gonna pick a part to do in 3D you might as well choose the scene where you're getting your money's worth of giant fire snakes.
