Production Studio
Heyday Films and Warner Bros. Pictures
You probably recognize the name Warner Brothers—you know, the guys responsible for distributing the Harry Potter movies (and, um, hundreds of other films).
But Heyday Films—the production company for this movie—might not be as easily recognizable. It's a British studio named after its owner, David Heyman, a.k.a. the dude who's been a producer on all of the Potter films to date.
Heyman actually worked in Hollywood before returning to the U.K. to set up Heyday Films in 1997. When one of his development executives came across a little series of wizard novels by J.K. Rowling, Heyman decided to buy the film rights in 1999. For those of you keeping track at home, that was right around the time Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban came out. So Heyman jumped on the magical bandwagon super early.
It paid off royally. Before producing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001, Heyday Films had only released one other film—Ravenous. It's about cannibalism in 1840's California and only grossed $2 million. The first Harry Potter film would earn the studio $975 million.
Good thing they cut all those scenes involving Hagrid eating people on the frontier?
Heyday Films would go on to produce other successful movies like Gravity, I Am Legend, and Paddington, but the Potter films are what really pay the bills. Heyday is currently slated as the production company for all the Fantastic Beasts movies, which probably means that David Heyman will be enjoying many, many tropical vacations in his future.
