• Jude and Noah. Noah and Jude. Twins, inseparable, all that jazz.
• But that all changes at around age 14. On the surface, Jude is boy crazy and Noah is art crazy. On the secret side of things, Noah is also boy crazy, and Jude's pretty pumped on art. Funny how that works.
• The twins get increasingly competitive. They do spiteful, nasty things, they're jealous of each other, and it's not the greatest.
• Jude's mom wants her to go to art school, but she's not into it. She feels discouraged when she draws because Noah gets all the praise.
• So instead she focuses on boys, especially one named Zephyr.
• Eventually, Jude has sex with Zephyr. But she feels rotten about it. Then, the same day, her mom dies.
• Jude cuts off her long blonde hair and starts dressing in baggy clothes. She's accepted into art school, which you would think would be pretty sweet, but turns out she hates it.
• She also sabotages her brother by not mailing his application to art school. Instead, she throws it in the trash bin. Thanks a lot, sis.
• At school, all her clay sculptures break. Jude thinks the culprit is the ghost of her mother, who's furious with Jude for what she did with Noah's application.
• About to flunk out, Jude seeks out a local sculptor to help her learn how to carve in stone. It's Guillermo Garcia, who (unbeknownst to her) had an affair with her mom.
• Jude falls for Oscar, Guillermo's like-a-son-but-not. They flirt and flirt, even though she's sworn off boys. And even though he seems like kind of a player.
• She also learns how to carve. Instead of doing a statue of her mother, she makes one of her and Noah. It helps her work out some stuff.
• Climax alert: one dark night Jude finds out Noah's in a bad place and ends up having to rescue him from taking a drunk dive face first off a cliff, Big night.
• After that, Jude finds out that Guillermo and her mother had an affair. She's floored.
• Jude confesses the application thing to Noah. He's surprisingly okay with it. And Jude is determined to get him into art school.
• Jude reconnects with her family, including her dad, and starts a serious relationship with Oscar. Yay.
