Character Analysis
Sallie Gardiner is a friend of Meg's, about the same age, but with far more money and a higher social status. Meg constantly compares herself to Sallie, wishing that she had Sallie's advantages in life. Sallie eventually marries Ned Moffat, who is also rich, and they lead a life of leisure. However, Sallie appreciates Meg for who she is – the girls remain friends after their respective marriages and despite the differences in their financial situations.
