Exactly how steamy is this story?

To be fair, this book is mostly about stuffy English professors and pretentious artists, and there's very little to make your glasses fog up. But there's a fairly steamy drunken scene where Jim makes out with Margaret, and another one where he makes out with Christine on the couch. So yeah, not exactly a book for elementary school kids (even if they could understand Amis's language).
