Lucy

Before we even crack open a novel entitled Lucy, we may have an inkling that someone named Lucy is going to be our protagonist. And once we get into the story and figure out that we're spending most of our time learning about this Lucy character and watching her go about her new life in the U.S., our suspicions are confirmed.

Sure, we're introduced to a variety of other characters and their problems, but there's little doubt that Lucy is the star of the show since it's her experiences, opinions, and growth that are the primary focus of the novel. It's true that Lucy may not be the most likable protagonist we've ever come across (Huck Finn would probably beat her in a popularity contest hands down). But at least she's never dull.
