Character Analysis
Lancelot's cousin is called "a misogynist" (K.15.1) and a "woman-hater" (K.39.12) many times by the narrator. One of the women he seems to hate is Guenever. When she is distraught over being accused of poisoning Sir Gawain, Bors dismissively tells her, "Fie on your weeping, for ye weep never but when there is no boot [need]" (K.18.47). White pulls most of his characterization for Bors-the-misogynist straight out of Malory.
Bors is a born-again virgin; we learn that he's only had sex once (K.29.5). According to his brother, Lionel, he's not very smart and is "a bit of a prig" (K.29.10). In fact, during the Grail Quest when he has the chance to save his own brother versus saving a maiden from being deflowered, he chooses the maiden without a second thought.
