Pan's Labyrinth Scene 32 Summary

  • The rebels enter the labyrinth to find Ofelia slowly dying as her blood drips into the pool at the bottom of the stairs.
  • Mercedes sits over the body and starts humming her lullaby, which morphs into the score. Everything turns a bright gold and Ofelia stands up unharmed.
  • She has on some fancy new clothes and shoes. In front of her, her mother and father are sitting on some super-elevated thrones (they look like they'd be impossible to climb down from, actually).
  • It turns out the final test was for Ofelia to spill her own blood instead of the blood of an innocent, so she passed with flying colors.
  • Pan is there too, and so are all three fairies. Pan bows to her as her parents offer her a seat in her very own throne.
  • The crowd in the stands around them breaks into applause, and Ofelia smiles.
  • Then we're back in our world with Ofelia dying, but smiling, on the labyrinth floor.
