- Mercedes is in the kitchen and hides a knife in her dress. When Ofelia comes down they go to get milk from the cow.
- Ofelia tells Mercedes about the faun and the fairies and Mercedes tells her she doesn't believe in fairies anymore, but her mother told her to be wary of fauns.
- A shed is being stocked with supplies. Mercedes gives Vidal the key but eyes the supplies, especially the medical supplies, longingly.
- Then someone spots smoke from what looks like a small fire and the soldiers are off.
