The Pardoner's Tale is in Middle English, which can be hard to read at first. But the Tale itself is an exemplum, or moral fable, that tells a fairly simple story in a concise and straightforward manner, so it's a good story to read when you're just starting out with Chaucer. A side-by-side translation is a huge help; it makes the jokes that much funnier and easier to get.
