How we cite our quotes: All quotations are from The Princess Bride.
Quote #1
INIGO: You seem a decent fellow. I hate to kill you.
WESTLEY: You seem a decent fellow. I hate to die.
The words may not scream "BFFs," but this is actually the first sign of a mutual respect between the two men that will blossom into a friendship as the movie progresses. We just don't suggest you use this line when trying to buddy up to someone at a networking event.
Quote #2
WESTLEY: Finally, Roberts decided something. He said, "All right Westley, I've never had a valet, you can try it for tonight. I'll most likely kill you in the morning." Three years he said that. "Good night Westley. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning." It was a fine time for me. I was learning to fence, fight, anything anyone would teach me. Roberts and I eventually became friends.
We never meet the Dread Pirate Roberts who passed along the title to Westley, but if W's story is any indication, the two were tight. For someone who kills with abandon and isn't in the pity business, this Roberts fellow must have really become attached to Westley.
Quote #3
HUMPERDINCK: Tyrone, you know how much I love watching you work, but I've got my country's 500th anniversary to plan, my wedding to arrange, my wife to murder, and Guilder to frame for it. I'm swamped!
COUNT RUGEN: Get some rest. If you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything.
This particular friendship makes our skin crawl, but these two jerks do seem to enjoy one another's company. In this scene, Rugen's looking out for the Prince's health. We're sure torturing people totally brings folks together. There must have been some awfully strong relationships built during the Spanish Inquisition.
