Scene 56
- In a series of quick scenes, Inigo continues to pursue Rugen through the castle, until the baddie gets the better of him, throwing a dagger right into Inigo's gut. This is supposed to be a comedy, right?
Scene 57
- Speaking of daggers, Buttercup's got one herself. However, just as she's about to do something stupid with it, Westley announces himself.
- Despite being barely able to move, he somehow managed to navigate the castle, find the room and climb up onto the bed, where he lies totally limp.
Scene 58
- Hope you didn't count Inigo down for the count after he got stabbed by the Count.
- The Spaniard battles back, gaining strength as he goes.
- He has a mantra that he keeps repeating: "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."
- This drives Rugen slightly nuts, and Inigo finally rams his sword through Rugen's heart.
- We're generally anti-violence here at Shmoop, but we'll admit it, we did a little jig just now.
Scene 59
- In the honeymoon suite, the reunited couple decide that Buttercup never actually got married, since she never said, "I do."
- Humperdinck appears in the doorway.
- The prince threatens to murder his foe (and do a better job of it this time).
- Westley threatens back, but Humperdinck suspects he's incapacitated.
- Westley acknowledges that this might be true, but what if it isn't?
- He describes in gory detail how he'll dismember Humperdinck slowly, leaving his head on so his ears can hear the screams of all the children who freak out when they see his hideous mutilated body.
- At this, our villain drops his sword and allows Buttercup to tie him to a chair.
- Inigo shows up and asks if he should finish Humperdinck off, but Westley states that he wants the prince to "live a long life alone with his cowardice." Considering the alternative, that actually doesn't sound too bad.
- Fezzik arrives outside the window with four white horses so the gang can make their getaway.
- Before everyone's finished leaping to the ground, Westley suggests that Inigo has the right stuff to become the next Dread Pirate Roberts.
- Which is when it finally hits us who the Spaniard reminds us of: Captain Hook. Of course. How did we not see it earlier?
Scene 60
- After riding well out of harm's way, Westley and Buttercup finally feel it's safe to get their mack on. They are about to kiss, when..
