My First Memory
- Many kids have delightful first memories of waiting up for Santa or eating their first ever cheeseburger… but Matthew's first memory has to do with waking up and finding that his mother was smashing all the kitchen chairs against the wall.
- He remembers that he snuck out of bed, grabbed Callie—who was a baby at the time—from the crib, and made sure that she stayed quiet so that their mom wouldn't come in looking for them.
- He did this a ton of times for Callie, and then later for Emmy. He was their protector.
