- Back at the wall, Colonel Horyse is alerted to the presence of the Paperwing. He recognizes Sabriel and enlists help to meet them when the craft lands.
- Sabriel and Touchstone land smoothly, and she sends the Paperwing away. Lieutenant Jorbert comes out to meet them, and Sabriel and Touchstone can't stop laughing—perhaps a reaction to their near-death escape.
- Horyse thinks that Sabriel "[…] no longer reminded him of his own daughter. She had become Abhorsen, a person beyond his ken, in such a short time […]" (25.53).
- Sabriel tells Horyse of her father's death, and says that because of it the Dead at the Wall will rise at the full moon. She says Kerrigor is planning to return to his body that night with an army of the Dead at his command, then she asks for all the soldiers with Charter magic to accompany her to help exhume and destroy Kerrigor's body, as well as Horyse, who's the strongest Charter Mage in the force. Horyse begins to organize a team to accompany Sabriel.
