- Samson crawls out of a hiding space, making it known that he's hungry. Promising supper and pie when they get to the diner, Lill gets even tongue-tied Samson to open his mouth to ask if the diner has banana cream.
- As they exit the bus in front of the restaurant, Mibs spies a homeless man lying beside a dumpster. Wondering if he's dead, and wanting to use her savvy to wake him up, Mibs slowly approaches him, touches his wrist, and—inside her head—begs the man to wake up.
- Mibs eventually hears the voice of a tattoo somewhere on the homeless man, and realizes that she has had her savvy wrong the whole day, and as such, that she cannot help her father. Poor Mibs falls into despair.
