Symbolism, Imagery, Allegory
Tibby's suckumentary is supposed to record her "summer of discontent" (3.35), since she feels like her summer will offer nothing but lame Wallman's workers. Tibby thinks it will be fun record the losers who will comprise her "pastiche of lameness" (3.35)—but the joke's on her, because the suckumentary, designed to highlight's other people's flaws, actually shows Tibby her own. Bailey uses the camera lens to show Tibby that people have a lot to offer if you take a closer look.
Instead of representing her lame summer, then, the suckumentary comes to represent Tibby's path to learning that there's more to people than meets the eye. It also symbolizes her friendship with Bailey, since the two girls develop a bond while filming this movie. The video camera is like a new set of eyes for Tibby, peeling back her presumptions about the people around her—and herself—and showing her the world more clearly.
