Sam Baker

Sixteen Candles can be seen to have two protagonists in a way. Like a video game that lets you pick a male or female avatar, you can choose either Sam or the Geek to relate to.

But for the purpose of this analysis, we're making Sam our protagonist. If you were to only watch the movie up until the scene on the bus, you might see the Geek as an antagonist of sorts. He definitely falls into another "a" category: annoying.

That's another reason we're choosing Sam. We wouldn't mind hanging out with her. The Geek is another story.
