Sam Jones

We figure out pretty quickly that Sam is our protagonist. Why? He's the narrator, the main character, and he goes through some huge changes over the course of the novel. When we first meet him, he's an ignorant, selfish teenager who is more interested in skateboarding than anything else. But by the end of the novel, he's grown up quite a lot. Sure, he still has his fun, but he's a responsible parent to Rufus and even helps out with his little sister, Emily. We see Sam growing up right before our very eyes.
