How the mighty have fallen. Obviously, it's not really a handful of hand-animated sock dolls the band is jealous of. It's popularity. There are more people at the venue to see something or someone other than themselves, and that's what they're having a tough time with. In this case, it happens to be puppets.

Okay, so there seems to be some confusion as to the definition of the word "envy." One can't really envy oneself. Which is why the line's so funny. But what Derek and David are saying, in essence, is that they're proud of who they are, their music, and all that they've accomplished. They feel that they're worthy of being envied by others. And indeed they are, if for no other reason than the amount of volume they get in their hair. What is their secret?
