- Face and Subtle proceed to tell Dame Pliant and her brother Kastril that being a Spanish Countess is the best thing that could possibly happen to her.
- Dame Pliant says she's not really into Spaniards (since they sent an armada to attack England back in 1588 and all).
- But, Kastril thinks this is a great idea and tells his sister the following: "God's lid, you shall love him, or I'll kick you."
- Dang.
- The young widow lives up to her name ("pliant" or, compliant) and agrees to do whatever her bro says.
- Face and Subtle trot out the Spanish count/Surly and make introductions.
- Kastril continues to act like an angry little bully toward his sister. (Actually, his name means "small, angry falcon," which suits his personality.)
- Meanwhile, the Spanish count/Surly seems totally charmed by Dame Pliant and strolls off into the garden with her.
- Now Face runs off to fetch Doll while Subtle starts giving Kastril more lessons.
