The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge Chapter 27: April 28, 1824 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Glass is locked inside the Fort Atkinson jailhouse for two weeks before being abruptly released. But how?
  • One word: Kiowa. Kiowa was on his way to St. Louis when he heard about what went down, and he managed to convince Major Constable to let Glass off scot-free.
  • Even better, Kiowa managed to get Glass's rifle back. Victory! Fitzgerald carved his initials into its buttplate and left a few "new abrasions," but it's a happy reunion (2.27.12).
  • Glass clearly still wants to kill Fitzgerald, but Kiowa tells him to forget about it. Unable to come to an agreement, the guys get drunk instead.
  • Kiowa also loans Glass some dough. What a nice guy.
  • That night, Glass stares at the bunkhouse where Fitzgerald sleeps, still unsure what to do. Instead of making a decision right now, however, he decides to just sit back and stare at the stars.
