The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge Chapter 28: May 7, 1824 Summary

How It All Goes Down

  • Captain Henry hasn't been seen outside of his quarters since "the Crow stole back the horses" and Bridger is unsure whether to go inside (2.28.1).
  • Bridger finally works up the courage and finds Henry looking Howard Hughes-levels of insane. Henry announces that they're broke.
  • Bridger has a suggestion: he wants to join a group of men who are trapping at Big Horn.
  • Henry scoffs at first but quickly realizes that the kid is being serious. He even finds himself admiring the Bridger's "youthful optimism" (2.28.17).
  • Finally, Henry agrees. Joyous, Bridger bursts outside and looks longingly towards the Big Horn Mountains.
