Character Role Analysis

Evie's Parents

Evie's parents—Joe and Bev—may be the people that she loves most in the world, but they're also her nemeses in this situation. Even though they love her and would never hurt her on purpose, over the course of the novel they show her just how flawed adults can really be. They lie, cheat, and steal—and might even be complicit in Peter's death. By the end of the book, Evie can hardly bear to look either of her parents in the eye—these two have majorly messed things up for her.
