Character Analysis
Mr. Grayson is a slick, successful businessman who Joe immediately befriends when they arrive at the hotel in Palm Beach. Joe goes directly to Tom because he wants to strike up a business partnership—he wants to buy the hotel with Tom so that he can continue to build on his success as a businessman. And Mr. Grayson agrees to this because he's tired of the limitations placed on him as a Jewish person. After all, he's suffered enough during the war—he's done being treated as a second-class citizen (until the deal falls apart, anyway).
