  • He gets a more welcome letter from Marian, but the news isn't good: Marian has had to move to a new place and tells Walter to hurry home.
  • His last day in Knowlesbury involves another visit with the magistrate for the last bit of the inquest.
  • Mr. Merriman is there.
  • Walter is impatient to leave for London.
  • He decides he's going to let everything with Percival go, since the man is dead and the secret should just die too.
  • Walter finally heads back to London after receiving one more note: this time it's a friendly one from Mr. Dawson, offering what help he can.
